  • Australia and Eclipse Traveler - Australia 2012

Australia and Eclipse Traveler - Australia 2012
    By: Jackie Janesky
This article appears on page 24 of the January 2014 issue .

When I finally decided to visit my last continent, Australia, I picked Eclipse Traveler (Lake Mary, FL; 800/276-1168) primarily because of their itinerary offering a chance to see a total solar eclipse north of Cairns.

Including a single supplement, the cost of my trip (Nov. 6-21, 2012) was $8,790, which covered round-trip airfare from Los Angeles, domestic flights in Australia and mostly 5-star hotels.

There were only 14 of us on the tour, and for some this was their fourth or fifth time seeing eclipses with Eclipse Traveler.

Arriving in Sydney, we found our hotel would be without electricity for a few days. Fortunately, the president of Eclipse Traveler, Cengiz Aras, was there and by the afternoon our group was relocated to the Westin Sydney, which I felt was in a better location.

We had a full-day tour of Sydney, took the Opera House tour and had lunch on a Sydney Harbour cruise. In the Blue Mountains, we visited Featherdale Wildlife Park and Scenic World.

Our final day in Sydney was a free day. Since we were near the King Street Wharf, I could easily walk there to see the Wild Life Sydney Zoo, which includes an area where you can get in with the kangaroos and wallabies. Also, the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium was a great way to see the local marine animals.

The following day, we boarded Quicksilver Tours’ 45.5-meter-long, high-speed catamaran for a full-day cruise at the Great Barrier Reef. At Agincourt Reef, optional activities included scuba diving for certified divers, snorkeling or riding in a semisubmersible.

The next day, Nov.14, we headed to Port Douglas for the eclipse, which started at 5:44 a.m. and lasted till 7:40. Mr. Aras got us a great spot. Back in Port Douglas, they had clouds almost all the time until the totality, then clouds again. We were lucky to see the whole spectacular eclipse. We ended up with a barbecue-style breakfast and a champagne toast.

The tour then headed to the interior of Australia, though seven members of our group were not continuing with us.

In Port Douglas, we rode the Kuranda Scenic Railway through its 15 hand-cut tunnels, glided on the Skyrail over the rainforest canopy to Caravonica Lakes and toured Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. At the park, we learned about the ancient Aboriginal culture through stage shows and demonstrations.

In the Northern Territory, we visited the Mutitjulu water hole, saw cave paintings and learned about the legends of Kuniya Tjukurpa (Python Dreaming). We enjoyed wine while watching the changing colors of Uluru (Ayers Rock) at sunset, and we had breakfast at the great dunes of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

After walking into Olga Gorge, with its sheer walls, at Kings Canyon we decided to take a floor tour instead of going to the top. Both sites were very interesting. It was a

Best eclipse tour company - 2015 Iceland Eclipse

I have traveled around the world chasing eclipses and experienced many travel companies through the years. I had always been a savvy traveler and prefer to have the best hotels and best food when i am travelling. I found Eclipse Traveler on the web and decided to book their Icealnd and Faroe Islands eclipse tour. I am very please with the level of services they have provided. Especially Cengiz's personal attention to every traveler was incredible. I did not know that they have been organizing eclipse trips since 2006. I wish i did found them earlier which could have eliminated a few bad experiences i had with other companies. Eclipse Traveler delivered what they promised and more. Thank you.

    2015 Iceland Solar Eclipse

I have travelled with Eclipse traveler to Turkey in 2006 and had a wonderful experience. I knew their hotels are excellent and the small size of their groups allows a better eclipse viewing experience. Therefore, i did not hesitate to sign up for the Iceland and Faroe Islands eclipse tour. Eclipse Traveler exceeded my expectations with their attention to detail and knowledge about the destination. I should add the food we had during our trip was unexpectedly delicious. I did not know that Iceland was one of the top culinary destinations. Faroe Islands were surreal and we stayed at the best hotel with the views of the sea. Everything was ready for us on the morning of the eclipse day and we enjoyed the breakfast buffet and hot coffee under the stars. I recommend Eclipse Traveler to anyone who are looking for a well-planned itinerary and the best eclipse experience.

  • Great hotels, wonderful tour leader - 2015 Iceland Eclipse

Great hotels, wonderful tour leader - 2015 Iceland Eclipse

What a great experience we had despite the claudy weather and partial eclipse we have seen. From the moment we got on our flight to the end of it , Cengiz made us all feel like VIPs. We had the best tables at the restaurants, best rooms at the hotels, best tour guides everywhere. Many other eclipse chasers we met asked me the name of the company and i told them "Eclipse Traveler". Keep up the good work and count on us for the 2019 Chile Eclipse tour.

Solar Eclipse tour was excellent - Indonesia 2016

Solar Eclipse tour to Indonesia and Bali was excellent, very well thought out itinerary, outstanding leader (Cengiz), the comfort of traveling in a small friendly group. Cengiz did an excellent job in finding the best spot to view the eclipse and we had a private tent with hot/cold drinks and sandwiches at the site which was admired by many other travelers from other tour companies. I am looking forward to travel with Eclipse Traveler on many eclipses to come.

  • 2006 Solar Eclipse tour of Turkey

My husband and I had been in Turkey in 1994 as part of an independent ’round-the-world trip and had often talked of returning. Eclipse Traveler's 15-day tour that included the 2006 solar eclipse sounded almost too good to be true. When we checked their website and learned it also included several days in Cappadocia, we called and made our reservations for the March 19-April 2006 trip.

This was our first trip as part of a tour group, and we couldn’t have been more satisfied. The price of $1,925 included airfare from New York’s JFK to Istanbul; hotels; all breakfasts and dinners; air-conditioned buses; tour guides, and an astronomer to help us better appreciate the eclipse.
We traveled in three buses, about 85 total travelers, with each bus having its own guide. Our guide, Sinan, was exceptionally good, with a broad knowledge of history, including that of both Islam and Christianity. He added so much to our appreciation of Istanbul, Troy, Pergamum, Ephesus, Hieropolis, etc.
An evening in an ancient caravanserai on the old Silk Road included a whirling dervish ceremony.

Eclipse Traveler had arranged — I’m not sure how — for us to have the exclusive use of an ancient, yet-to-be-excavated Roman ruin site the day of the eclipse, March 29. Several in the group had brought their high-powered telescopes, which they willingly shared with all of us. The weather cooperated beautifully to make my first total solar eclipse a truly memorable event.

The region of Cappadocia is unique and otherworldly. The strange rock formations that have served as homes and churches for many centuries are a sight and experience that cannot be easily described. An optional early-morning hot-air balloon ride over those formations was a fitting climax to this wonderful tour. For an in-depth tour to learn more about the wonderful country of Turkey, we highly recommend Eclipse Traveler.

  • 2010 Tahiti Solar Eclipse was fantastic!

We returned from our honeymoon a few days ago at Tahiti and it was absolutely fantastic. We would like to thank you both and to a tahitian agency with whom you cooperated for such a fantastic experience. The whole honeymoon was prepared and organized in an excellent way. Moreover we had best rooms everywhere. Even our overwater bungalow was the last in the line so we could enjoy a beautiful view. In particular, we would like to thank you for an extraordinary experience with sun eclipse. We are happy we could be a part of this group. In addition, we particularly appreciate efforts you made for modifying the dates of our honeymoon. We have never experienced such good pro-client services. It was a pleasure for us to get to know you.

We wish you a lot of success and pleasure in your future work!

    Best regards

  • Our first experience to see a whole solar eclipse - China 2009

I appreciate all your efforts for the tour.It was the first experience to see whole solar total eclipse I couldn't see in China. I learned a lot of things through the travel including many experiences in islands. The tour was perfect. I'd like to use this experience for my job and if I could come back to a teacher, do for my classes.
    Best regards,
