Icelandic culture is a unique mix of ancient Norse traditions and modern-day influences. The country’s focus on feminism, technology, and language has impacted its culture over the years. Icelandic cuisine is known for its fresh seafood, lamb, and dairy products, and the country has a thriving music scene that includes traditional folk music and contemporary pop. Iceland is also known for its stunning natural beauty, including towering volcanoes, expansive underground ice caves, and steaming geysers 4. Itinerary

Day 1: Mon, Aug 10Arrival in Reykjavík (KEF) – 60 km

Welcome to Reykjavík! Upon arrival at Reykjavík Airport, please arrange your own transfer to our hotel, Hotel Grand – Tower View.
No meals are included today.

Day 2: Tue, Aug. 11Reykjavík – 50 km (B, L)

After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Reykjavík including FlyOver Iceland and Perlan (4 hrs), followed by a visit to the Sky Lagoon (2 hrs).
Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital, is known for its colorful corrugated-iron buildings set against snowy mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Highlights include Perlan and Hallgrímskirkja Church, both offering panoramic city and harbor views. We’ll also drive by Höfði House, where Reagan and Gorbachev met in 1986 to begin ending the Cold War, as well as the Sun Voyager sculpture and the striking Harpa Concert Hall.
Your ticket to FlyOver Iceland includes a 5D flight simulation that offers the sensation of flying over Iceland’s landscapes without leaving the ground.
At Perlan – Wonders of Iceland, explore interactive exhibits showcasing volcanoes, earthquakes, geothermal energy, a planetarium featuring the Northern Lights, an indoor ice cave, and the glaciers’ past and uncertain future. Don’t miss the 360° observation deck views.
In the afternoon, relax at the Sky Lagoon, Iceland’s only infinity-edge geothermal lagoon. Enjoy the 7-step spa ritual and traditional Icelandic platters.

Day 3: Wed, Aug. 12 Eclipse Day (B, Lunch Boxes)

After breakfast, gather from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Hvammur Hall at our hotel for an exclusive session with our astronomer. Complimentary coffee, tea, and water will be served as you learn about the rare celestial event.
Afterwards, we’ll travel to a specially chosen location to witness the breathtaking total solar eclipse—a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Following the eclipse, return to the hotel to relax and reflect.

Day 4 Thu, Aug. 13Reykjavík – Vík via Westman Islands – 220 km (B)

After breakfast, embark on a spectacular journey to the Westman Islands, a volcanic archipelago off Iceland’s south coast. We travel along the South Coast to Landeyjahöfn, where we board a ferry to the islands. The 30–40-minute crossing offers stunning views of cliffs and slopes—perfect for photography.
Explore Heimaey, the largest and only inhabited island, born from underwater volcanic eruptions. Visit the Eldheimar Museum, built around a lava-buried house from the 1973 Eldfell eruption, telling a dramatic story of resilience.
Hike the slopes of Eldfell volcano to feel the warmth of recent lava fields. Visit Stórhöfði, Europe’s windiest point, for breathtaking island views and, if visiting May to August, watch puffins nesting.
Next, explore Herjólfsdalur, a valley surrounded by cliffs and hills, featuring Elephant Rock and ruins of settlers’ farmhouses.
Return by ferry to the mainland and continue to the village of Vík.

Day 5 Fri, Aug. 14Vík – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon – Skaftafell – 255 km (B, D)

After breakfast, journey to the spectacular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, filled with icebergs 1,000–1,500 years old drifting slowly across the water. The lagoon covers 18 sq km and reaches 248 m deep. It’s been featured in movies like Batman Begins and James Bond.
Along the way (weather permitting), enjoy views of:
• Volcanoes: Hekla, Eyjafjallajökull, Katla, Öræfajökull
• Glaciers: Langjökull, Vatnajökull, glacier snouts
• Sandy plains: Sólheimasandur, Mýrdalssandur, Skeiðarársandur, Breiðamerkursandur
• Coastlines: Vík village, Diamond Beach at Jökulsárlón, various south coast viewpoints
• Fertile farmland and mossy lava fields
Join an amphibian boat tour gliding among the icebergs, watching for seals and dolphins.
End the day in Skaftafell, learning about glaciers, their formation, and the impacts of climate change, amidst deep crevasses and ice sculptures.

Day 6 Sat, Aug. 15Skaftafell – Hella – 255 km (B)

After breakfast, explore Iceland’s south coast wonders—thundering waterfalls, snow-capped volcanoes, and a dramatic coastline.
Visit two iconic waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, with time for photos. View the dormant Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which erupted in 2010.
Experience the famous black sand beach with basalt rock formations.
Continue to Hella and visit the Lava Centre, an interactive exhibition on volcanic activity, earthquakes, and Iceland’s geological formation, including:

Day 7 Sun, Aug. 16Hella – Golden Circle – Blue Lagoon – Hafnarfjörður – 250 km (B)

After breakfast, explore the Golden Circle:
• Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO site known for scenic lakes and forests
• Geysir hot springs area, home to Strokkur geyser’s regular eruptions
• Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s largest waterfalls
Visit Friðheimar, a greenhouse showcasing year-round vegetable cultivation in Iceland’s climate. Enjoy an Icelandic horse show with lively music and meet the horses.
Relax in the famous Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, surrounded by volcanic landscapes and milky-blue waters.
Overnight at Viking Village, Hafnarfjörður.

Day 8 Mon, Aug. 17Departure – 40 km (B)

After breakfast, please arrange your own transfer to Reykjavík Airport (KEF) for your departure flight home.

Payment Schedule:

  • Deposit: $2,500 per person is due at the time of booking along with a completed Booking Form.
  • 2nd Payment: $2,000 per person due by May 1, 2024
  • Final Payment due by May 1, 2025

Final Payment Policy

If the final payment is not made within 7 days of the specified due date, Eclipse Traveler reserves the right to cancel your entire tour without any refund of payments already made. Final payments must be made exclusively via bank transfer; credit cards and checks are strictly not accepted.

Cancellation Terms:

Cancellations must be in writing by email, fax, or mail. Cancellation Penalties are as follows:

  • Booking date –August 1, 2023: 25% penalty
  • August 2, 2023 – May 1, 2024: 50% penalty
  • May 2, 2024- May 1, 2025: 80% penalty
  • May 2, 2025 – Trip date: 100% penalty

Eclipse Traveler makes every effort, in collaboration with our astronomers, local meteorological offices, and regional astronomers, to adhere to the planned itinerary. However, please note the following important considerations:

  1. Itinerary Changes:
    The itinerary is subject to change due to alterations in local flight schedules, weather conditions, or other meteorological factors that may affect the visibility of the eclipse. Viewing a solar eclipse is inherently weather-dependent. In the event of unfavorable weather, Eclipse Traveler reserves the right to change the itinerary, re-route, or cancel the tour, while offering suitable alternatives to guests in a timely manner.
  2. Flight Bookings:
    We strongly advise all guests not to book or purchase international flight tickets without first consulting Eclipse Traveler staff, to avoid conflicts with potential itinerary changes.
  3. Tour Pricing:
    Eclipse Traveler reserves the right to increase pricing for upcoming Total Solar Eclipse tours if local partners at any destination raise their rates. Additionally, if local carriers impose new surcharges, it may impact the final cost of the tour.
