Itinerary

Day 1March 14, 2015: Departure from New York

Overnight flight with ICELANDAIR to Reykjavik which is capital city of Iceland.. During the overnight flight you will served complimentary meals and drinks.

Day 2March 15,2015: Arrive Reykjavik

Arrival in Iceland and private guided transfer to Reykjavík and a conveniently located hotel. Rest of the day free to explore the city. Accommodations in twin rooms with private facilities.

Day 3March 16,2015: Reykjavik

Today you will go out and explore some of the natural wonders of Iceland. At 11.30 am your guide picks you up and you start with a visit to the World Heritage Site Þingvellir NP where the North Atlantic Ocean Ridge surfaces creating dramatic landscapes. In these settings the first National Assembly was established in the year 930. After exploring the area you continue to the renowned Geysir geothermal area where mother of all geysers is to be found along with various other hot springs. A short drive away is the magnificent waterfall Gullfoss, cascading down into the canyon of Hvítá in 2 steps. After enjoying the outdoors it is time to get a taste of the luxuries of the geothermal energy with a visit to the Fontana spa. After a refreshing bath your next stop will be the local restaurant Lindin for a 2 course dinner. After the dinner you head back to Reykjavík stopping to gaze at the Aurora Borealis if they are out and visible. Return to the hotel for the night. Arrival there around midnight. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 4March 17,2015: Reykjavik

Your guide picks you up at 9.00 am and you set out for the wonders of the South coast of Iceland. Driving through the southern farmlands, past the greenhouses of Hveragerði village and east to Eyjafjallajökull glacier that erupted in 2010. In the foothills there are spectacular waterfalls you will stop at and you will get an idea of what it is like to have an active volcano in your backyard watching the movie about the 2010 eruption at the farm Þorvaldseyri. You continue the drive and come to the outlet glacier Sólheimajökull where fully qualified glacier guides will take you onto the ice and its dramatic landscape. After the glacier walk a short drive to the Reynisfjara beach where columnar basalt is to be found on this black volcanic beach. Return to Reykjavík and drop off at the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 5March 18, 2015: Reykjavik , Fareo Island

This morning early pick up for the transfer to Keflavík airport for departure to Fareao Island , Vagar Airport meet with your local tour guide and transfer to your Hotel which locates the city of Torshavn, an hour’s drive away. After settling in at your cosy hotel, you might like to take an evening stroll in the city centre. Tranquil Torshavn, one of the smallest capital cities in the world, is named after Thor, the god of thunder and lightning in Norse mythology. Overnight in Fareo Island.

Day 6March 19, 2015: Faroe Island

Breakfast at your hotel.Today, we will visit some of the pearls of the Faroe Islands amid stunning scenery. The tour leaves Torshavn and passes Funning, where the first Vikings are said to have settled, before arriving in the tranquil village of Gjógv, named after a 200-metre long sea-filled gorge that runs north from the village to the sea. Visit the gorge and the charming old shop in the village where you can buy local refreshments and souvenirs. We then move on past the rock formations of Risin and Kellingin off the northern tip of Eysturoy. On our return, we pass the village of Eidi before stopping in a tiny, picturesque village named Saksun, located among high mountains in the bottom of what used to be a sea-filled inlet. This is the site of Dúvugardar, a 17th century farm which is now a national heritage museum. In the evening, you might like to dine at one of the splendid restaurants in Torshavn, after which you can enjoy the lively nightlife. Overnight in Fareo Island. Dinner and accommodation

Day 7March 20, 2015: Faroe Island (----Eclipse Day--)

Today we will observe eclipse at our special eclipse viewing site reserved only for our Eclipse Travelers. Overnight in Fareo Island. Dinner and accommodation.

The total solar eclipse will take place on 20 March 2015 bewteen roughly 9.41 am and 9.43 am depending on the observation location.The longest duration of totality will be 2 minutes and 47 seconds off the coast of the Faroe Islands.These are the data for Tórshavn, the capital city of the Faroe Islands:
After the eclipse, we will return to the hotel in the early afternoon.You will be free to relax and explore the Faroes for the rest of the day. Tonight we will gather for a special ” Eclipse Party” featuring traditional dishes and entertainment.

Day 8March 21, 2015: Faroe Island

After breakfast commence an optional full day tour in Fareo Island. You might explore the old part of Tinganes, the old centre of Torshavn. You might wish to visit the National Museum, The Nordic House or take a ferry over to the island of Nólsoy across the bay. In the afternoon, you could try your luck on a fishing trip to the world-class fishing grounds.

Alternatively, you might like to take a full-day optional excursion to the beautiful island of Sandoy, on the trail of the Vikings among the puffin colonies on the soaring cliffs that are home to vast colonies of sea birds. Overnight in Fareo Island. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 9March 22, 2015 : Faroe Island

Free day at leisure.

Day 10March 23, 2015: Faroe Island – Reykjavik - New York

Morning breakfast and transfer to the Vagar Airport for your short flight to Reykjavik then connecting flight back to home.
